About Mark

Mark_Schumann_2009-curl-photoI have been communicating since birth but only getting paid for about 36 years.

And, over the years, I have found myself in the middle of some defining moments in business history.

As Director of Employee Communications for Denver-based Frontier Airlines, I worked through the industry adapting to deregulation in the 1970s. In the 1980s, when I joined Towers Perrin as a communication consultant, I worked with the leaders of Enron when the organization began, with Exxon when the Valdez accident occurred, and helped Southwest develop its reputation as a great place to work, communicated the transition of ownership of Cathay Pacific Airlines to the Chinese at the same time of the Hong Kong changeover, and worked inside the merger of Exxon and Mobil.

Later I led the global communication practice for Towers Perrin and serves as the firm’s Managing Principal in Houston before concluding my career, after 28 years, in January 2010. Since then I have worked with Western Connecticut Health Network – with hospitals in Danbury, Norwalk and New Milford – as Vice President of Marketing and Communications. Along the way, I served as the Chair of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), co-authored Brand from the Inside and Brand for Talent with Libby Sartain, spoke and led workshops all over the world.

And, now, as I share what I have learned over the years with re-communicate, I see countless opportunities for us to continue to learn what it takes to effectively connect people, organizations and nations through effective communication.
